Some Of-Interest Horror and Action Future Blu Notes

.
BoGD still loves its action trash and it's great to hear Sony Home Entertainment has finally slated Last Action Hero for its Blu-ray debut on January 12th, 2010. No extras aside from a BD-Live "movieIQ" trivia track, but the audio will be in lossless 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. LAH was the first film to be mixed in Sony's SDDS theater surround format so it should at least sound great. I have the Japanese Superbit DVD and it'll also be interesting to see how the picture quality fares. While many shots look quite detailed; there's just as many that look rather muddy like the film wasn't color graded to an exacting standard to begin with.

Sony will also be debuting the recently completed Universal Soldier: A New Beginning on the format on January 5th, 2010.

Troma has tentatively slated Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead for Blu-ray on February 24th, 2010. No word of specs or supplemental material. Glad I held out on this one and I'd assume all of the studio's recent Tromasterpiece Editions will be seeing high def announcements in the future as well.

Blue Underground has set a February 23rd, 2010 Blu-ray drop for Romero's The Crazies. Extras mirror the studio's long existing DVD. I assume we'll see the studio's usual 1080p high-def transfer with lossless DTS-HD Master Audio...hopefully in the film's original mono sound like their recent BD of The New York Ripper.

In Britain, Paramount is surfing with Snake in Escape from L.A. on March 29th, 2010. Warner will battle Medusa with the original Clash of the Titans and soar with falcor in The Neverending Story on March 22nd, 2010. I'm assuming these three will be receiving U.S. dates soon since the studios hold these films in American territory. Pontypool (pictured left) is coming from Spirit Entertainment on January 25th, 2010. Artificial Eye will raise Lars von Tier's Antichrist on January 11th, 2010. Optimum is bowing with 1974's Emmanuelle and going through hell with Jacob's Ladder on March 1st, 2010. The same studio will also bring Romero's latest to Blu, Survival of the Dead, on February 22nd, 2010. Anchor Bay UK is getting an elderly Elvis hard-on with Bubba Ho-tep on February 1st, 2010.

In Japan, Vincenzo Natali's Cube will be arriving on February 17th, 2010. Anh Hung Tran's I Come with the Rain is set for January 13th, 2010. Also it appears Toei will be releasing Godzilla films well into the next year on Blu since starting with the 1954 classic this past September.

In Germany, Ti West's The House of the Devil debuts on January 29th, 2010 from Alive Marketing. John A. Russo's Escape from the Living Dead (pictured right) under the title Space of the Living Dead is slated for January 15th, 2010 from Euro Video.

Pontypool I likes. Actually it was a decent north of the border flick. Very low budget...it almost looks like a horror play on stage.

Jaded, have you read about Dead Air? Almost seems like Pontypool ripped off the idea...

...do you dare tread upon the staircase?
