New York, One More Day...

.

Blu-ray.com is reporting Blue Underground will deliver Fulci's The New York Ripper (Lo squartatore di New York) onto Blu-ray on September 29th with a 1080p 2.35:1 widescreen transfer, 7.1 lossless Dolby TrueHD audio, 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, and a few extras. Who would have thought, toe sex and a psycho Donald Duck on BD? Also this will be the first Fulci film on Blu-ray! Awesome!

I may be part of a small minority of people that prefer movies like this grainy and unpolished. I've yet to jump on the blu-ray bandwagon yet because of it.
That being said, I am happy that a Fulci movie has been given the royal treatment, but why NEW YORK RIPPER? Wouldn't THE BEYOND or CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD been better choices for this format?

Well, if anything, a properly done HD transfer will look even more grainy and "intimate" feeling. BU's Blu-ray track record has been great (ultra grainy) so I imagine the picture will look as good as when it was originally hitting Fulci's eye.

I agree it's a bit of an odd first choice, maybe it's Lustig's favorite of the Fulcis he has in his stable...?

...do you dare tread upon the staircase?
