What the fuck, Lionsgate?

It appears Lionsgate now has the license for Kathryn Bigelow's Near Dark (instead of Anchor Bay) and they're planning a (most likely barebones) DVD release for July. There's just one problem...

For Chrissakes LG, what the hell did you do? This film isn't Twilight, at all. I hate this bullshit, god forbid we have accurate video cover art for films anymore. Sorry, but this always pisses me off when studios tailor artwork of completely unrelated films to whatever current films are all the rage at the time to get one over on the stupid among us. Seems to be a more-and-more common occurrence nowadays. They even ditched the great, distinctive font of the title!

THAT is some raw, gay shit right there. I'm glad I already have a copy so I don't have to ever worry about getting stuck with the new cover. But it's still really heinous for the overall spirit of the film to be jizzed all over like that.

the font used on the newer version of Near Dark is so no frills. as is the art. that girl's face is bigger than the vampires.

for such a kick ass movie that box is BORING.

Thinking about it more, what really sucks is we probably won't see a Blu-ray edition for sometime to come. I could have seen Anchor Bay porting it to HD much sooner than LG, who I bet will treat it as throwaway catalog title. Argh.

That is fucking stupid. I doubt people are going to buy it because it looks like a Twilight-type vampire movie. I'm sure those who do will hate it and will just be pissed off. I think it's great that Lionsgate is releasing some movies on dvd for the first time but shit like this is just unnecessary.

What's will be next ? Return to Horror high with a High Shool Musical kind of Artwork ?

...do you dare tread upon the staircase?
